Realistic train rail simulator

Derail Valley is a 3D train simulation game that takes you to a realistic and immersive experience for train enthusiasts. Set in a fictional European countryside, the game allows you to take control of various trains — from classic steam engines to modern diesel and electric locomotives as you traverse different terrains.

Aside from enjoying the lush photorealistic environment, you can also upgrade your train for better parts and aesthetics. As you play Derail Valley’s story, you’ll have the chance to operate bigger and better trains — along with traversing increasingly challenging paths and getting heavier cargo to transport to each level’s drop-off points.

A full train operating experience

You will play as a rookie train operator tasked to bring cargo from the busiest cities to remote areas on the map. Depending on your train, you can only bring a specific amount or your train will not function well because of the heavy load. As you progress, you will operate larger and better train models with complex routes — teaching you to slow down or go fast with these obstacles.

One of the game's standout features is its detail and sound design. The great overall graphics, detailed train models, and realistic physics engines create an authentic train driving experience. You can explore vast landscapes, traverse winding tracks, and operate complex signaling systems. The game also offers a variety of scenarios — ranging from simple freight deliveries to complex passenger operations, providing endless hours of gameplay. It has VR support, as well.

However, Derail Valley isn't without its flaws. The game's steep learning curve can be difficult if you have little experience in such games, as the tutorial only provides the most basic information you need. Due to how faithful it is to the actual thing, the interface can be clunky at times. Additionally, the game's performance can be inconsistent, especially on older hardware — making it only playable for modern units.

The closest you’ll get to driving an actual train

Derail Valley is a great game for any train simulation enthusiast. Its realistic gameplay, stunning visuals, and immersive sound design make it a truly captivating experience—further enhanced by the rich sound design. However, the game provides little tutorial, suffers from a clunky interface, and is picky on hardware. Nevertheless, if you're looking to spend hours mastering the art of train driving, this is the game for you.
