Find the serial killer
There are many horror games available in the market today, but perhaps there is no game shorter than Death Trips. This indie game created by Alberto Navarro will have you exploring an infamous motel in search of a serial killer. Taking the first-person point of view, you will need to check every room and hallway of the motel to look for the killer. Although short, this game has the environment, the story, and the ending that will catch you off-guard.
Death Trips is a small adventure game created for Halloween. The game begins with a narration about its premise. In it, a serial killer called Lady Death is on the loose, and a certain Inspector M. James is out to find them. The police officer discovered the last victim in a creepy motel, which he starts investigating. Unfortunately for the inspector, the culprit is still at large.
The game will then drop you into a motel room. The room is well-lit, so you don’t have to worry about jumpscares early in the game. However, to progress, you need to move out of the room through the elevator. Don’t bother checking the doors as all of them are locked. There will also be no clues hidden in the furniture, so you can spare yourself the trouble of checking everything, as well.
The elevator will then lead you to a dark hallway. To make matters worse, the game plays an intense background sound that will have you expecting the killer to be behind you. Of course, there aren’t. You will see the killer at the end of the hallway running towards you. Be warned, as the game has a very unexpected ending, which has everything to do with its title. At first, players will probably be left hanging, but give it a moment and you will see the ingenuity of the concept.
Even though it's categorized as a horror game, Death Trips is a genuinely funny game. It uses the player’s expectations and the ambiance to fool the players. The game will psych you up about running away from the bad guy, only to surprise you in the end. It is very short, however, and has no replay value so if you are expecting to get hours of enjoyment, this is not the game for you.
