Dark Souls: Daughters of Ash Remastered is a free full re-imagining and expansion of the Dark Souls series. Similar to the Lava Eyesore Fix, Daughters of Ash overhauls many features of the original game without adding custom content. However, the difference between the two is that Daughters of Ash reimagines the entire game, not just the base game’s lava experience. 

Dark Souls Flora Overhaul is another brilliant mod for the Dark Souls franchise, but Daughters of Ash changes much more content. 

Game progression

This mod changes how you advance through Lordran. You’ll encounter new world-altering events, unexpected pathways, and critical items. With more overall content than the original game and more branching story paths throughout, Daughters of Ash is more complex and offers more story events than the original game. 

There’s no new game content (maps, character models, visual effects, and dialogue recordings), but the event scripts, entity logic, and placement data have been modified, extending the experience. 

NPCs, bosses, and enemies

You'll encounter new characters with brand new questlines whose paths will cross in a myriad of unpredictable ways. Additionally, stories from the Dark Souls base game that you know well may take unexpected turns.

Take on new and modified boss battles, most designed to provide unique challenges rather than more straightforward, more difficult ones. You can explore the world and face many new enemies, including enemies from previously cut content - but you’ll also see old enemies in a brand new light with improved battle logic. 

Secrets and lore

New item descriptions and gameplay events will provide more insight into Lordran's past. Additional lore content has been crafted with such intricacy and forethought that it doesn't conflict with the existing Dark Souls storyline but instead builds upon it. Supposedly, there are so many secrets embedded in Daughters of Ash that it's impossible to discover them all in one play-through. 

A fully realized retelling

Daughters of Ash changes almost every aspect of Dark Souls. It’s an incredibly well-thought-out and detailed expansion that doesn't feel out of place. Entity logic, game data, and in-game history has been cleverly rearranged and improved upon so that every play-through feels like a new Dark Souls experience.
