Data Recovery Pro is a data recovery application that can work with a number of storage devices, from hard drives to USB memory sticks, and even mobiles phones. There are three modes to choose from; file recovery, photo recovery, and lost partition. Despite being an OS X application, Data Recovery Pro does work with non Mac files systems, such as NTFS, and FAT16/32. A wide range of file types are recoverable, including document and zip files, as well as most audio, image, and video file formats. The interface is very simple, and should prove usable for most people regardless of how tech savvy they are (or aren't).

A Leap of Faith

The very nature of data recovery is touch and go. Sometimes data is unrecoverable, and you can't always tell until you try. For that reason it's a shame that Data Recovery Pro has no trial version available, as it forces the user to pay a fairly high price... and it may not work! Also, it is worth noting that an additional plugin is required to use with OS X 10.8.
