A Limited, but Serviceable Media Player

Whether you’re watching a movie, or just listening to music, having a powerful media player can truly elevate your enjoyment when engaging in entertainment. CyberLink Power Media Player is an award-winning multimedia player that offers support for every media file type, as well as a large range of supported file formats. With CyberLink Power Media Player, users can enjoy their favorite media file with a stylish interface and high-quality output.

Interface and Installation

There are dozens of media players in the market today, and in most cases, the only thing that they do differently is the interface and presentation. Before going to that, let’s talk about the app’s installation process. Installing the app is simple and easy. There are no third-party apps that need to be installed for CyberLink Power Media Player to work unless your PC is really lacking in necessary codecs. The interface is CyberLink Power Media Player’s greatest asset as the aesthetics of the app are truly gorgeous. Your media library is divided according to file type, and they can be easily accessed through buttons at the top of the window. The calendar look is particularly impressive because pictures are displayed as thumbnails across the calendar on the day they were created, giving you easy visual reminders about events throughout the month. The playlist interface is also very stylish. Each playlist has a grid cover with pictures as thumbnails across it. Users can also easily rename playlists and assign colors to them.

Supported File Formats

CyberLink Power Media Player supports video, audio, and images, as well as display subtitles for video files. For videos, the app can play MP4, 3GP, MPG, VOB, WMV, and more. AAC, MP3, PCM/WAV, and M4A, on the other hand, are the supported formats for audio. DTS and AC3 are also supported, but only for videos. Only JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, and TIF are supported for image files, while SRT, PSB, SUB, SSA, ASS, and SMI are the supported formats for subtitles.

Limitations

The player itself is very limited, however. The interface only has a pause/play, next/previous, and volume button. People who use advanced media players like VLC will be disappointed with CyberLink Power Media Player. There are no options to adjust the look, sound, and feel of the video, as well as play media at different speeds. In terms of file support, CyberLink Power Media Player does not support DVD or Blu-ray playback, unfortunately. Cyberlink does have PowerDVD, however, which does support DVD and Blu-ray.

Serviceable

When put against industry giants, like VLC Media Player, there’s no doubt that CyberLink isn’t as strong. That said, it’s still a serviceable media player that’s definitely presented in a very stylish interface. If you want more customization options for your media player, then CyberLink Power Media Player may not give you what you need. But if you’re not picky with features, then this app will be enough for you.
