Crypt3 is the free and open-source release of Steve Dekorte's Crypt app, which can be used to decrypt and encrypt files and to shred old encrypted or decrypted files, leaving no traces behind. It's very useful for securely locking files beyond a password. Its encryption is strong enough for most (not all) uses, and it runs primarily on 64-bit OSes.
