Cossacks 3 is a historical real-time strategy game developed by GSC Game World. Rather than being a completely new sequel, the game acts as a modern remake of the original Cossacks: European Wars from 2000, preserving its large-scale warfare while updating the graphics and systems for modern hardware.  

Set during the 17th and 18th centuries in Europe, Cossacks 3 places players in control of powerful nations as they gather resources, build cities, and command enormous armies. The experience revolves around classic large-scale RTS combat, offering battles that can involve thousands of units on a single battlefield. 

Strategic warfare and national diversity 

Gameplay in Cossacks 3 revolves around building a strong economy before commanding massive armies into battle. Players collect food, wood, gold, iron, and coal to support their empire and train soldiers. Villagers gather resources while buildings unlock new technologies and units, creating a steady progression from a small settlement to a powerful military force. This system highlights the game’s economy-driven warfare. 

One of the most interesting elements is the variety of nations available. The game features 12 playable civilizations at launch, each with unique units and military advantages. Players can command armies composed of infantry, cavalry, artillery, and naval forces while researching over 100 technologies that influence the battlefield. In addition, more than 140 historical buildings appear throughout the game, helping recreate the atmosphere of early modern European warfare. 

Multiplayer is where the game truly shines. Up to eight players can fight on the same map, commanding enormous armies and competing for economic dominance. The scale of these matches creates intense strategic warfare, especially when alliances and diplomacy come into play. Random map generators also allow endless variations of terrain and starting positions, greatly increasing replayability. Still, the campaign design sometimes feels less dynamic than modern RTS games.

Cossacks 3 successfully revives the spirit of classic real-time strategy by combining large-scale battles with detailed economic management and historical atmosphere.
