Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty, developed by Pyro Studios, is a standalone real-tile tactics game set during World War II. As an expansion to Behind Enemy Lines, it does not require the original game to play. Players lead an elite squad of commandos through a series of eight new, high-stakes missions across Europe, ranging from the Channel Islands to the heart of Germany. The gameplay emphasizes stealth, precise timing, and the coordinated use of each commando’s unique skills.

Tactical mechanics and advanced stealth tools

The game introduces several new mechanics that expand the player’s tactical options. Commandos can now use non-lethal methods to neutralize enemies, such as knocking them unconscious and using handcuffs to restrain them indefinitely. New distraction tools, including throwing stones to change an enemy’s field of vision or leaving cigarette packs to lure guards away from their posts, allow for more subtle infiltration. Specialist roles—including Green Beret, Sniper, Marine, Sapper, Driver, and Spy—remain central to the experience, with each mission providing a specific subset of characters to solve complex, puzzle-like objectives.

Beyond the single-player campaign, Commandos: Beyond the Call of Duty includes a 

cooperative multiplayer mode

 where players divide control of the available commandos to complete missions together. The mission design is significantly more challenging that the original game, featuring denser enemy placements and more intricate security layouts. To accommodate different skill levels, the expansion includes two difficulty settings: Easy and Hard. Furthermore, the game rewards a methodical approach, often requiring players to save-and-load frequently as they test different strategies to bypass guards and sabotage military installations.
