Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Firestorm is a strategy game from Westwood Studios, serving as the expansion pack to the 1999 real-time strategy, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun. This add-on improves the original game on all fronts. It picks up from where the base game ends, continuing the battle between the GDI and the Brotherhood of Nod.

Engage in the Firestorm Conflict

Whereas the base game focuses on the Second Tiberium War between the Global Defense Initiative (GDI) and the Brotherhood of Nod, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Firestorm revolves around the Firestorm Conflict. This is an attempted rebellion by CABAL, Nod’s AI supercomputer, by converting people into cyborgs. This storyline is reflected in two new campaigns and the addition of a third faction for other game modes.

This expansion introduces new units. One is the GDI Juggernaut, a massive ground weapon that is slow but deals heavy damage. As mentioned, it brings back beloved C&C features not found in Tiberian Sun. One chief example is the return of the full motion video (FMV) briefings. It also fixes issues in the base game, such as modernizing the network support to allow modern systems to run multiplayer games.

Still, despite resolving some of the problems with the base game, it has a couple of issues of its own. These are minor and not game-breaking, though. Players have reported minor glitches in the rendering or animation of certain units. There are also instances where certain missions in the Nod campaign lack certain elements, such as a HUD or an in-game cursor.

A worthy C&C successor

Among the numerous games in the Command & Conquer franchise, Command & Conquer: Tiberian Sun - Firestorm remains one of the most notable entries. Not only does it improve upon its base game, but it also expands the established storyline, giving players the satisfaction of additional paths through the new campaigns. Also, it adds new buildings, units, and techs that open new gameplay possibilities. Still, it’s not perfect; it has a couple of technical flaws.
