Detective adventure set in the 1930s

Clue: Murder By Death is an adventure game developed and published by Cocodrolo Games. It’s a story-driven detective title, heavily inspired by British crime and mystery fiction. In it, you have to investigate a murder by looking for evidence, connecting clues, and interrogating suspects in a manor packed with secrets.

Clue: Murder By Death features multiple narrative branching paths, leading up to several different endings depending on the choices that you make. Each decision crucially influences the outcome of the murder case, revealing different truths and consequences. It is a highly replayable game, as no two playthroughs are the same.

Piece together evidence to catch the killer

Set in 1930s England, Clue: Murder By Death puts you in the role of a detective, tasked with investigating a murder at a sprawling manor. You only have 120 minutes to solve the case before Scotland Yard arrives, so you need to make haste and explore every inch of the manor. All rooms are fully explorable and filled with interactive items and secrets waiting to be discovered.

Interestingly, all characters are rendered in a chibi style, adding a subtle, lighthearted touch to the otherwise tense and menacing atmosphere. Despite their cute appearances, every resident has something to hide, which makes each of them a potential suspect. You’ll need to interrogate and ask questions to help piece together your deductions. Since it’s a narrative-heavy game, expect to see long sections of dialogue.

The gameplay is perceived from an isometric perspective, allowing you to see your surroundings more clearly and avoid missing important details. However, this camera perspective has some downsides, including clunky controls and movement that make navigation feel awkward. Additionally, the fixed angle can obscure key objects, requiring you to look a bit closer so as not to miss some important evidence.

Doesn’t take itself too seriously

All in all, Clue: Murder By Death surprisingly approaches the mystery genre in a more lighthearted manner due to its cute and comical aesthetics, as opposed to a gritty and suspenseful atmosphere that most detective games have. It is very accessible and approachable to both casual gamers and younger audiences, despite the murder theme that the game’s plot is centered around.
