Clove calculates the carbon footprint of your purchased products by considering the manufacturing and shipping processes. It utilizes estimates provided by the EPA in 2020 and 2021 to determine the carbon footprint per dollar of manufacturing cost for different product categories. Amazon's 2020 report on their carbon footprint per dollar spent is also taken into account. The extension matches each Amazon product to the closest category and calculates the carbon footprint based on the closest category.

Donations are automatically collected monthly through Stripe, based on your carbon emissions. Users can select a charity of their choice, and the carbon offset donations are tracked and available in the Clove dashboard.
