checkVT is a simple web browser extension developed by emyll32dev for analyzing URLs using VirusTotal. With checkVT, users can easily check if a selected URL has been analyzed for malware by submitting it directly to VirusTotal. This open source project was developed as part of an independent research class supervised by Dr. Vaibhav Anu at Montclair State University.

VirusTotal is a free service that utilizes over 70 antivirus scanners and URL/domain blacklisting services to analyze suspicious files and URLs for malware. checkVT adds an extra feature to the analysis process by attempting to find the effective URL (redirect) if it exists on the submitted URL. This allows users to see the VirusTotal results for the URL/domain they would have ended up at, rather than the original link they clicked on. This is particularly useful in detecting and avoiding phishing attempts that rely on URL redirection to masquerade as legitimate websites.

CheckVT is a lightweight and user-friendly extension that seamlessly integrates with the Chrome web browser.
