Checkers is a strategy board game. It is played on an 8x8 chequered board, with each player starting with 12 pieces, placed on the dark squares of the board closest to them. The rules of the game are simple: you can only move diagonally on the dark squares, the light squares of the checkerboard are never used. You can only move your pieces in one direction, which is forward or backward. The rules change from variation to variation but the goal is the same, you must capture the other player's checkers or make them impossible to move. If a piece reaches the end row of the board, on the opponent's side, it becomes a king. A king can move diagonally forward and backward, making them more powerful in jumping over opponent pieces.
