A free open-source video streaming app for programmers
The Butter Project was primarily invented and developed to help programmers distribute video content, but it is free and there is nothing stopping anybody from using it. The open source code and the application itself is modular, which makes it easier to insert into your current app, and it makes it easier to experiment with. Current video distribution programming is expensive and often requires a license that expires, but the Butter Project gives you a video distribution program for free. Gather, share and watch video content either with the app on its own. Alternatively, you may gather, share and watch through your own app after installing Butter Project into your program. The app is legal, even though some of the code is lifted from other apps and programs.
Pros
- It is designed for easy forking so you won’t have to change your core a lot
- The modular design makes it easy to use as a base for streaming apps
Cons
- The tool is not very popular and there is only a small online forum community
- You need a fair amount of programming skill for the post-install bug-hunt
