BLOCK STORY is a half-pixelated role-playing mobile video game by MindBlocks wherein you can go on an open-world fantasy adventure. True to its name, the game has blocks for game assets, but unlike the fully blocky Minecraft, BLOCK STORY only has blocks for the world environment while other objects—such as you, the local wildlife, and your items—are detailed 3D models. This game combines the popular 3D block-building mechanic, the sandbox exploration gameplay, and a dedicated role-playing element to its features. So, if you’ve ever wanted a Minecraft game that has epic dragons in it, then this is a game for you to try.

The Blocky Fantasy Story You Were Hoping For

BLOCK STORY offers a full-on open-world exploration with the procedurally-generated maps it gives, similar to Minecraft. There are various diverse biomes scattered everywhere, as well as tons of hidden nooks and crannies containing goodies and creatures that will complete your RPG experience. Since Minecraft is a survival game, BLOCK STORY also has survival elements. In fact, you have to save the world and not die by the might of the dragons flying about or even by the aggressive animals found everywhere. You have to gather, harvest, and mine for valuable resources, which you can use to craft tools, weapons, and even materials for your home. You can also farm to have a constant food source. Furthermore, you can go around meeting NPCs in various locations and fulfill their quests for you to gain experience points and even cool rewards. You can even get a dragon of your own, and you can raise to be your mighty steed and companion in the epic battles awaiting you. However, while BLOCK STORY is ambitious in its game design, it suffers from a lot of issues that came even from its old PC version. Lagging, crashing, controller settings you can’t toggle, no map or compass for the large world and buggy models were just the tip of the iceberg for this sad mess of a Minecraft clone. You’re free to try it yourself, but perhaps installing Minecraft fantasy mods would be better.
