BLACKPINK is a female South Korean group formed by YG Entertainment, consisting of members such as Jisoo, Jennie, Lisa, and Rose. The group debuted on August 8, 2016, with their single "Solo" (마지). The single was a huge success, peaking at number one on the Billboard 200 and earning a record as the most-viewed debut music video by a Korean act.

With their commercial success in the first five months, they were hailed as the New Artist of the Year at the 31st Golden Disc Awards and the 26th Seoul Music Awards. They received the New Artist of the Year at the 31st MBC Music Awards, their first awards as a band. At the 31st Seoul Music Awards, they received the best Korean Artist of the Year, their first. They also received the Artist of the Year at the 31st Seoul International Music Festival.

YG Entertainment has planned several future projects with BLACKPINK, including a television series and several film projects.
