Bhagavad Gita is a poem of seven hundred verses. It is the most important work of Indian literature. It was written by Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead. It was a time when the world was in a bad shape. Evil powers were ruling the world. There was chaos and destruction. Everything was going to ruin. The earth was flooded with violence and sin. In such a situation, the only hope was to get rid of the evil powers and establish a new order. The new order would be based on justice and peace. In order to establish this new order, God (Bhagavad Gita) decided to play a role of the driver of a chariot. This role was to take the souls of the people to a heavenly realm. God wanted to give people a new earth. So, He took the form of a beggar named Krishna and appeared on earth in the city of Radha. God appeared in the form of Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, to teach people the real nature of Godhead and to establish the new order. Godhead is the ultimate reality. Everything else is merely the appearance of the real world.
