Ablution is the washing of the body to cleanse it from impurities. It is one of the five pillars of Islam, along with prayer, zakah, fasting and the Hajj.

In modern times, the term "ablution" has been used to describe the procedure used to perform a cleansing and religious ritual.

In most of the Muslim world, ablution is performed before prayers and other occasions when the body is considered clean. In some cases, ablution may be performed as part of a larger ritual, such as the Muslim wedding or the initiation of a novice into Islam. In modern times, many Muslims have adopted a more relaxed approach to the requirements for ablution.
