Batak is a variant of the popular trick-taking card game Spades. It is also known by many other names, such as Oh Hell!, Blackout, Nomination Whist, and more. The game is played with a standard 52 card deck, with the cards in each suit ranked from high to low: A, K, Q, J, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2. Each player is dealt 13 cards.

The objective of the game is for players to win tricks by playing the highest value card in the suit led or the trump suit. The player who wins a trick leads to the next trick. The game continues until all tricks have been played and won.

Batak offers two game modifications: simple and auction. In the simple game, players bid the number of tricks they think they can take and then try to win at least that number of tricks. In the auction game, players compete to offer the highest bid and must take that number of tricks or more.
