Bandwidth Hero is a browser extension that reduces data consumed when browsing the web. The open source extension achieves this by compressing images on a particular web page, by close to 50 percent. It uses a data compression tool for converting pictures to smaller JPEG or WebP images. Every URL with an image goes through this conversion process. The compression service doesn’t stow the images and all the processing happens on the fly. Available for both Chrome and Firefox, the extension is extremely convenient when browsing on an LTE or 3G connection.
