Avira Phantom VPN Pro is a security application from Avira. As the name suggests, it is a virtual private network (VPN) that you can use to protect your devices against a host of network threats. It allows you to connect an unlimited number of devices, even in its free version.

However, unlike other free VPN, such as ProtonVPN, using the free version of Avira Phantom VPN Pro limits you to 500MB per month. To get unlimited data, you need to buy a license or pay a monthly subscription. Additionally, the app has fewer servers compared to the industry leaders. 

Is Avira Phantom VPN Pro good?

The Avira Phantom VPN Pro is designed with novice users in mind. It is more of a set-and-forget program with its simple one-button window. However, while it is okay for beginners, power users will notice the lack of advanced features. Aside from a VPN kill switch and the option to automatically secure untrusted WiFI networks, the app offers no other advanced settings. It also lacks any protocol options.

As mentioned, the VPN app has comparatively fewer servers compared to big names, such as ExpressVPN. With this, it is not the best choice for international travelers looking to spoof their locations. Although, unlike popular security apps, it allows you to connect an unlimited number of devices. It also does not differentiate between types of traffic, which means you can use BitTorrent and P2P file-share to your heart's content.

Performance-wise, Avira Phantom VPN Pro lags behind other providers. The speed is slower, especially over longer distances. The latency is low, though, making it a solid choice for keen gamers. It also has good same-country upload speeds, so it isn’t too bad for torrenting. While it may not have many advanced privacy settings, it nonetheless uses the unhackable cipher AES-256 and its own DNS server to keep you safe online.

Overall, Avira Phantom VPN Pro is an OK VPN for beginners to protect their online privacy. It allows unlimited devices to connect per account and has no problems with any type of traffic. Moreover, its clear logging policy is reassuring. It certainly beats most other antivirus VPNs out there. That said, it still lags behind the big names and has a lot to improve to become one of the best.
