アーテリーギア-機動戦姫- takes place on a post-apocalyptic Earth, devastated by the invasion of enigmatic life forms known as "傀儡" for over a century. As the commander of the Union fleet flagship, "オートランド", players lead a group of girls known as "Artery Gear" (or "AG" for short), humanoid mobile weapons, into various battles.

The battles are turn-based and progress through a side-scrolling command battle format, allowing players to enjoy the intricately detailed and dazzling motions of the SD characters.
