One-of-a-kind visual novel
First released in Japan and for multiple gaming platforms, Archetype Arcadia is a high-stakes sci-fi visual novel that takes place in a distant dystopian world. Armed with a promising premise, breathtaking visuals, and fully voiced dialogues, it offers an unforgettable adventure that’s happening in a world within a world.
In the premium game Archetype Arcadia, you will play as the protagonist Rust who has to venture into a virtual-reality world and find a cure for his sister Kristin, who’s suffering from a deadly disease called “Original Sin.” The game deals with heavy dialogue and detailed scenes of violence and abuse at certain times, however, so audience discretion is strongly advised.
Find the cure for Kristin
Brought to life by developer studio KEMCO, a well-known pioneer in the realm of Japanese role-playing games, this game is a visual novel title that heavily deals with the mysterious disease “Original Sin.” It has wiped out most of humanity, inflicting maddening visions and hallucinations of vivid, violent imagery on its unwilling victims. Once affected by it, a victim’s only hope is by venturing into a virtual world named Archetype Arcadia.
The overall gameplay is split into eight chapters, with varying points of view and featuring different character flashbacks. Not only you will play as the protagonist Rust, but you will also be able to put yourself in the shoes of the people you will meet in the virtual world. There are various endings that can be achieved; some are bad and some are good, and these can be attained through the many choices you will make throughout the game.
As Rust, your primary objective is to cure Kristin of her sudden ailment. In trying to achieve this, you will encounter lots of characters with varying lived experiences. Due to the “Original Sin’s” effects, they may be suffering from vicious hallucinations as well. Audience discretion is advised as some parts of the dialogue describe abuse and other forms of violence in detail. Additionally, the game is only currently available in Japanese — the English versions are yet to be released.
Promising yet proceed with caution
Fans of classic visual novels will not be disappointed with Archetype Arcadia, thanks to its wonderfully drawn visuals and intriguing storyline. There are different endings that can be achieved, too, encouraging replayability while not being boring. Immerse yourself into a post-apocalyptic world plagued by a hallucination-inducing sickness and try to find a solution for the protagonist’s sister. Keep in mind that there are violent and mature themes and scenes, though.
