American Moslem Society AMS, established in 1937, is the oldest mosque in Michigan and one of the oldest in North America. Known for transmitting the call to prayer via outside loudspeakers, it holds a significant place in the Muslim community. The mosque has grown from a small house to a 48,000 square feet facility, serving as a hub for Muslims in the area.

AMS focuses on youth development, providing tools for children to navigate societal challenges like violence and drugs. Emphasizing self-discipline, honesty, and respect, AMS promotes education, volunteerism, and outdoor activities for a healthy lifestyle. Additionally, AMS is dedicated to outreach efforts, hosting events, seminars, and Humanity Day during Ramadan to educate non-Muslims and foster community relationships.
