Abyss takes place in a post-apocalyptic world where the main goal is to survive in a place called the Abyss, which is a result of nuclear wars. The game requires players to explore the wild and harsh terrain to find necessary items to protect themselves from the harsh conditions of the world. You can team up with friends or even tame a dog to help you in your journey.

Abyss features three factions - Union, Sunrise, and Vandals - each with their own leader and territory. You can join any of these factions and participate in capturing settlements, which bring items of a certain type to the faction. There are several settlements to capture, and it all depends on which faction you choose to join.
