1796 Pattern British Officer's Saber is a modern recreation of a real-life blade that was used by the British during the 18th century. The Oakeshott Institute has been working on developing this program for the past few years. This app is the first of its kind to be based on a full 3D scan of a real historical blade, courtesy of The Oakeshott Institute.

A historic Pattern 1796 Light Cavalry Saber in its original scabbard is shown. The second of several attempts to standardize the swords used by British cavalry at the close of the 18th century was the Pattern 1796. This blade, which replaces the previous Pattern 1788, has a sharply accented curve and cuts exceptionally well. A Royal Cypher with a crown, drums, and banners, as well as profuse greenery across the blued scrollwork background, are featured on the blue and gold blade of this particular item, which is lavishly adorned. Shark skin is used for the grip, which is wire-bound to improve the user's grip if the sword gets wet. To prevent the weapon from being misplaced, a sword knot would have been wrapped around the wrist.
